Audi and FAW to build new plant in Changchun

Already in the second quarter of 2022, the construction of a new Audi FAW NEV plant with a capacity to produce 150,000 cars per year should begin! The first talks about planned cooperation were heard back in 2020. Then, for the first time, rumors appeared that the German manufacturer Audi was ready to create a joint venture for the production of electric vehicles, together with Chinese comrades from the FAW corporation. But now there is more detailed information from the Volkswagen concern. Its representatives said that already in April, Audi and FAW Group will launch the construction of a plant in Changchun (the capital of Zilin Province). We are talking about investments in the amount of about $ 3.3 billion. As a result, they plan to achieve a volume of deliveries of 150,000 cars a year. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2024. As for the share of each of the companies, Volkswagen will own 60%, and the share of FAW Group will be 40%. As for car models, according to preliminary data, we are talking about the Premium Platform Electric platform, which was developed by Audi with the support of Porsche. The plant will start with the production of three models - the Audi Q6L e-tron and Audi Q6L e-tron Sportback crossovers, as well as the E6L Limousine sedan. More detailed information about their characteristics is not yet available. Well, we look forward to the results of this cooperation. If you combine German quality with a Chinese price, you get a mega-popular car.
