Toyota RAV4 bets on engine reliability

Toyota is actively preparing for the debut of the sixth-generation RAV4 crossover, which is expected to take place later this year. The reputable Japanese website BestCarWeb has published new technical details about the updated model, which remains one of the most popular in the world.

The new RAV4 will offer three powertrain options: a standard hybrid, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and a fully electric version. Despite rumors about new 1.5- and 2.0-liter gasoline engines, Toyota has decided to retain the 2.5-liter engine that has proven itself in the current generation. According to preliminary information, it will be a modernized version of the existing unit, valued for its reliability and durability — especially important in key markets such as the United States.

Interestingly, at the end of last year, Toyota launched the final version of the fifth-generation RAV4 in Japan — available exclusively with all-wheel drive. In the new generation, the base configuration will again be front-wheel drive. Hybrid models will feature the E-Four all-wheel drive system with a separate electric motor on the rear axle, while the fully electric version will use two electric motors — one for each axle.

The sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 will be built on the updated TNGA-K platform. The base hybrid version is expected to start at around $30,000, while the plug-in hybrid will cost approximately $39,000, and the fully electric version — $40,500.
