BMW has unveiled a special version of the M4 Competition coupe created exclusively for China. The newcomer is called the M4 Edition Nurburgring and is limited to just 53 units—a number marking the 53rd anniversary of BMW M. The premiere took place at the Shanghai Auto Show, and the model pays tribute to the legendary Nürburgring, known as the “Green Hell.”

The exterior is finished in BMW Individual Frozen Deep Green Metallic, a nod to the forests of the Nordschleife. The look is complemented by red accents on the radiator grille and brake calipers, as well as bronze wheels. Inside, there’s black trim with red stitching, Nürburgring outline logos on the headrests, and door sills reading “nurburgring 1/53.” The flat-bottom steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara, and carbon-fiber trim pieces are used throughout.

Powertrain and hardware mirror the M4 Competition M xDrive: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six delivers 530 hp and 650 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive featuring an active rear differential. The 0–100 km/h sprint takes 3.5 s (3.2 s with a 1-ft rollout). Top speed is limited to 250 km/h, rising to 290 km/h with the M Driver’s Package.

BMW does not plan to export the M4 Edition Nurburgring outside China: the series targets the local market, where exclusive editions traditionally see strong demand. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed, but the special version will be more expensive than a standard M4 Competition; for reference, the base M4 in China starts at 893,900 yuan. The limited run, unique decor, and nods to motorsport heritage make this model a potential collectors’ item.
