Bentley have outdone themselves with the Rancho Mirage design

20 November 2024, Crewe — Commissioned by Bentley Rancho Mirage (California), the unique “Expressions of Texture” collection features four individually configured Continental GT Speed Convertibles that showcase the creative capabilities of the Mulliner studio. Each model draws inspiration from the landscapes and atmosphere surrounding Palm Springs, with every detail reflecting the highest level of exclusivity and personalization.

Unique materials and finishes

Each of the four convertibles features an exclusive satin paint finish from the Mulliner palette — a process that takes up to 55 hours of meticulous handcrafting. The interior is adorned with extraordinary elements: ultra-thin stone veneers over 200 million years old, as well as Mulliner’s signature blind-embossed upholstery inspired by the Colorado desert and the Coachella Valley.

Nature as inspiration

Bentley Rancho Mirage is located in the heart of diverse natural surroundings — from arid plains to lush oases and rugged mountain ranges. This natural mosaic served as the conceptual foundation for each model in the collection.

● Peacock Blue Satin — a reflection of Coachella's starry night skies. The exterior features a tri-tone carbon fibre styling (satin carbon, Electro Blue, and Peacock Blue), while the interior combines a two-tone fascia with Slate stone veneer and bright Electro Blue accents. Serenity quilting and a bespoke tonneau cover complete the look.

● Ghost White Pearl Satin — an interpretation of desert sand dunes. The brilliant white exterior is paired with Tungsten wheels and a Silver Tempest pinstripe. Blind quilting on the seats and tonneau was created specifically for this model, mimicking the smooth curves of the dunes. Inside, a fascia in Ghost White Pearl Satin and Autumn Stone veneer showcases understated elegance.

● Havana Satin — a tribute to mountain ranges and the warm hues of a desert sunset. The interior features Cognac and Burnt Oak leather, blind-quilted seatbacks and tonneau, and 3D-engraved floor mats with a topographical map of Death Valley. The fascia and console are finished in Havana Satin and Copper Stone veneer with bronze pinstriping.

● British Racing Green Satin — a nod to British motoring heritage, completes the collection with depth and recognizable character.

Exploring color, texture, and form

Each model in the series demonstrates that color is only the beginning of the personalization journey. The softness of Dinamica upholstery, the cool touch of stone veneer, and the sculptural quilting offer a limitless palette for self-expression.

Comment from Mulliner

David Parker, Mulliner’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “The ‘Expressions of Texture’ collection was created to inspire clients to explore the full spectrum of Mulliner’s personalization capabilities. Our aim is to realize even the boldest dreams of our clients.”

About Bentley Mulliner

Mulliner is the world’s oldest coachbuilder and the origin of bespoke automotive craftsmanship. As Bentley’s personalization division, Mulliner specializes in unique models and limited-run coachbuilt vehicles that reflect the character of the most discerning clients. From custom features to entirely one-off designs, the Mulliner name remains a symbol of ultimate Bentley design and craftsmanship.

The Bentley Mulliner “Expressions of Texture” collection is a remarkable blend of bespoke design, luxurious materials, and technical excellence, embodied in four unique Continental GT Speed Convertibles. Each car exemplifies not just customization but Mulliner’s philosophy, where every detail matters.

All models are painted in exclusive satin shades from the Mulliner palette — such as Peacock Blue, Ghost White Pearl, Havana, and British Racing Green. Applying the paint by hand takes up to 55 hours, underscoring the meticulous craftsmanship involved. The exterior is further enhanced with carbon fibre elements in tri-tone combinations like Satin Carbon Fibre, Electro Blue, and Peacock Blue.

The collection places special emphasis on tactile sensations and natural materials. Interior panels are finished in stone veneer over 200 million years old — an engineering marvel in itself. The seats and tonneau are blind-quilted with patterns inspired by natural formations such as sand dunes, ridgelines, and topographic maps of Death Valley. One of the models even features a 3D engraving of these maps on the floor mats.

Interiors are finished with Cognac and Burnt Oak leather, as well as sustainable Dinamica microfibre. Lacquered surfaces and stone inlays — including Autumn Stone, Copper Stone, and Slate — create a refined atmosphere of luxury and innovation. Contrasting highlights in Electro Blue and bronze give each interior its own personality.

Each model in the collection captures a distinct facet of the Californian landscape — from Coachella’s night skies to glowing desert sands and the warm tones of mountain sunsets. The vehicles are not only visually stunning but also offer a tactile symphony through soft upholstery, cool stone surfaces, and dimensional quilting textures.

Although the press release does not include detailed technical specifications, each version is based on the Continental GT Speed Convertible platform. These vehicles are traditionally powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine producing 659 horsepower. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes approximately 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of up to 335 km/h. Thus, the “Expressions of Texture” collection by Mulliner represents not only design excellence but also the full force and dynamic spirit of Bentley.
